Johns Hopkins describes FFS as one or several individualized procedures that may be performed together or in stages. That is why two totals can describe very different care plans.
01 / Itemize
Put each quote into the same columns
- Exact procedure names and what each is intended to change
- Full name of the surgeon responsible for each procedure
- Anesthesia type, named provider and operating facility
- Consultation, imaging, laboratory and medication costs
- Implants, grafts, garments, splints or other materials
- Required follow-up visits and after-hours contact
- Interpreter, document translation and medical-record fees
- Complication, revision and refund terms
Record the currency, whether tax is included and how long the quote is valid. Do not compare one all-inclusive total with another quote that excludes anesthesia or aftercare.
02 / Before payment
Ask what can change after examination
Request the deposit and cancellation policy in writing. Ask what happens if the surgeon changes the plan after imaging or in-person examination, if a medical issue postpones surgery, or if the named surgeon becomes unavailable.
Do not pay a broker for consent or medical decisions.
Ask every facilitator and interpreter who pays them and whether they receive a referral fee. Communicate directly with the medical institution about the surgeon, consent, payment, records and aftercare.
03 / Korea checks
Registration is a minimum check, not a quality ranking
Medical Korea states that institutions attracting foreign patients operate under a registration system and must meet requirements including liability coverage. Use the official registered-hospital search, then separately verify the actual surgeon, relevant specialist credentials, facility and procedure experience.
A registered listing does not guarantee a particular result and is not a substitute for informed consent or independent medical advice.
04 / Full budget
Keep recovery and contingencies outside the package
- Accommodation near required follow-up, including possible extra nights
- An adult support person when recommended
- Local transport that avoids difficult transfers during recovery
- Meals, medication and wound-care supplies
- Travel insurance exclusions and possible follow-up costs at home
- A flexible return ticket when practical
The CDC warns that complications and follow-up after medical travel can be costly and advises coordinating follow-up and obtaining complete records. The treating team must set any flight restriction.
